A traditional-shaped gourd birdhouse with bluebirds painted on the design. As shown in the photo, the bluebird is resting on a dead limb.
For many people, birdhouse equals gourd. With this item, it's true -- this house is made for the birds. Two bluebirds are painted on this round gourd. Shown in the photo, the front has a bluebird inspecting a dead limb. The back has one flying. A pale yellow background highlights the design.
Birds choose housing based on size and snugness. A small bird will not need a large house. So when you order, please choose a size, based on what type of bird you would like to attract: small, like a wren, or large, like a jay. Likewise, birds make their nests from natural materials; so I leave a bit of the "gourd guts" inside for them.
The house has drain holes in the bottom, in case rain blows in, and vent holes around the sides and back, for air flow. It also includes a hanging wire. The outside has been sealed with three coats of Helmsman Spar Finish. (If it can protect a sailboat, it can protect a gourd.)
Keep in mind that although I can make a good bird house, I cannot force the birds to live there. Make sure you place the house in a good location for them. Then sit back and wait.
Shipping within the US is included in the price of this item.
